Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt • Navy Veteran
Born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, Joaquín Sánchez proudly carries his Puerto Rican heritage wherever he goes. After enlisting in the United States Navy, he developed the discipline, resilience, and leadership that would underpin his martial-arts career. While competing as an amateur MMA fighter, Joaquín was first introduced to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu—and instantly recognized its transformative power.
He committed himself to the art, training under Jean “Dalua” Cartagena of A-Force Jiu-Jitsu, where he sharpened both technique and mindset. Progressing through the belt system and becoming a multi gold medalist in regional and national BJJ tournaments. With determination and dedication Joaquín earned his black belt in Oct 2023.
Today, Professor Sánchez makes his home in San Antonio, Texas, directing classes out of his school in Pleasanton. With infectious enthusiasm and clear, patient instruction, he welcomes newcomers by teaching fundamentals step by step, while offering experienced students advanced drills and strategic insights to refine their timing, leverage, and overall game.
More than a coach, Joaquín is a mentor: he believes Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu builds confidence, mental fortitude, and community. Whether you’re stepping onto the mat for the very first time or polishing elite-level techniques, Professor Sánchez is dedicated to helping every student grow stronger—both on and off the mat
